Despite Minecraft’s seeming simplicity; this platform allows you to rebuilt anything in your game world; build a real city like New York, or build a working processor, for example. And how difficult is it to recreate Minecraft itself on another engine? This is a question that the owner of Sam Hogan’s Youtube channel tried to answer.

A bored enthusiast found an interesting way to pass the time in a period of self-isolation; he set himself the task of transferring the super-popular Minecraft constructor to the Unity engine in 24 hours. At the same time, the programmer introduced additional restrictions for himself : not to use the Internet at all, not to peek into various tutorials and not to read about the decisions of other programmers. Well, it seems that the task was not so difficult: Sam Hogan did it in 12 hours.

Minecraft code in only 12 hours

Of course, Sam Hogan’s creation is far away from the real Minecraft, but completely reproduces its idea; the game has a procedurally-generated vocal world and gives the user the ability to install and destroy blocks. Complex mechanisms cannot be built here, but assembling different buildings, statues, or other works of art is not uncommon.
