Project for 27 million dollars of wikipedia cancelled Hufnews
By the beginning of 2022, Russia should have its own alternative to the popular online encyclopedia «Wikipedia». However, the project, which was allocated about 27 million dollars, was officially cancelled. This is evidenced by the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation.
According to the Legal Information Website, the interdepartmental working group responsible for the creation of an electronic version of the Great Russian Encyclopedia (BRE) and other materials for national scientific research was abolished educational interactive encyclopedic portal. The reasons for this decision are not specified.
Former Director-General of the Russian National Library Alexander Wiesly assured that the Russian online encyclopedia should become not so much an analogue as a full-fledged competitor of «Wikipedia». He said that users would be able to choose the source of the information.
The writing of articles for the Russian online encyclopedia was to be carried out by authors, who would work under BR conditions and be responsible for the quality of the material with their authority.
