Users around the world are struggling to use Whatsapp on Friday (19): they can not log in and see the error “temporarily unavailable”, asking to try again in 5 minutes – but the app does not work because it is off the air. In addition, the message “failed to update privacy settings” when trying to activate the “last seen” and “online” notices appears.
Whatsapp does not display status “online”
Whatsapp became the most discussed topic on Twitter, according to the trending Topics. No Downdetector, complaints began to accumulate around 12:30 (Brasilia time); the fault was resolved around 17h. Facebook, Messenger and Instagram operate normally.
Some users report that the “last seen” setting was changed without their permission; the “online” , “recording audio” and “typing” notices were also gone. If you try to fix this in the settings, the app displays the error “failure to update your privacy settings; please try again later”.
“I can’t change the visa last, I uninstalled the app and when I reinstalled, I can’t access it anymore,” explains a user in Downdetector. “Ask to return in 5 minutes, and now you’re saying the problem is the network!”
On the Downdetector map, the complaints are spread throughout the world, not only in Brazil: the failure of Whatsapp was noticed in our neighbors in South America, USA, Mexico and Europe.
