Privacy is one of the main concerns today in the digital world. Whether it’s on the Internet or even in personal files, if we don’t take it seriously enough we risk exposing our information to danger. To add more security to files on the device, or on an external disk, Windows has an advantage to encrypt through BitLocker.

Open Start Menu and look for “Control Panel”;

Click on System and Security

Look for the option BitLocker Drive Encryption and click on it.

Select the disk that want to encrypt, and next to it click Run BitLocker

Preparation for the selected hard disk encryption will begin. When finished, set the password;

Choose one of the options to backup your encryption key, which you can use in case you forgot the password specified in the previous step.

Choose whether to encrypt the entire drive, or only specific parts of the disk being used. We recommend to encrypt the entire drive;

On the last screen, if you are using the latest version of Windows, a cryptographic compatibility warning will appear. Select a compatible mode, so that you can access the file on devices using other versions of Windows;

On the last screen, click “start encryption”, and wait for the process to complete.

Once the process is completed, when trying to access the encrypted disk, you will be prompted for the password. If you want to remove encryption for some reason, just follow step 4, and use the “Tax Unlock” option. All encrypted disks will have a side lock as shown below.
