5 Ways To Identify Fake News From Google
Google has shared an article in which it shows how we could fight Fake News using its tools, something that is very often better than asking brother-in-law.
Although currently only available on some countries’ blogs, the list can be applied in any language and in any country where your services are available:
1 – Use the top of the search, as it is where there is relevant and reliable information on the open web. They focus on issues such as health and politics, when there are crises or elections. 3 – We can find the fact check stamp for news that has been denied in the Search, Google News and now in Google Images. They are stamps and verifications that come from media, editors and verification agencies that use the ClaimReview system to highlight the verifications that have been made.
4 – Search for context. We can browse Search and Google News for «related news» and «full coverage», to verify if there are different views on the same subject and understand the evolution of anything that is happening.
5. Although algorithms cannot determine whether specific content about recent events is true or false, Google’s search engine identifies spam-related behaviors, both by checking the techniques used to give visibility to a news story and by manually analyzing pages frequently based on user comments and reporting channels.
As you can see, there are ways, although they require time and dedication, something that many people who receive a news on Whatsapp do not have. The advice I can give on the subject is: if you receive something that you really want to share and that can affect society or part of it, breathe twice before doing so, it can be false.
